Topic-based Networking and Social Sustainability

Part of Reconstructing Worldview series’s foundation is topic-based networking.

Users are willing to network given a specific topic and roughly-organized questions around the topic. The need is real, but users are not willing to create the topic and maintain the network themselves. That’s why a curator team must be there to do the work — create/select the topic, decide how the session should flow, and who will be included and in what way.

No input, no output. For a group of people could have a great experience under a particular topic, some shared input is needed, or some shared interest is needed with diverse individual input.

There is an interesting category of math problem which is Newton’s problem of cows and fields: Suppose you have a grassy field, and cows eat grass at a constant rate. Keep in mind, the grass keeps growing continuously.

The networking problem is indeed a similar kind of problem. Here, one accumulates things that attract other people — these could be your knowledge, your experiences, or even your appearances. And in every interaction, a certain amount of attraction get used, while in between interactions one continuously accumulates more (hopefully). So, for an individual, here is the formula that may help us figure out how to maintain our social sustainability:

Existing attraction + speed of attraction accumulation * time length = speed of attraction consumption * time length

And you really want to balance the between accumulation/consumption speed and time length.

No input, no output.

No input, no output
